Brief Profile
Spasti is a troublemaker, anarchist, arsonist, and close-quarters combatant for NIMBUS. He drinks fuel, can breathe fire, and has a knack for abruptly ending political debates with well-placed blows. How his body withstands such strain remains a scientific mystery. Fibo describes him as a “biochemical impossibility,” a “walking engine failure,” or “proof that reason does not exist.”
Little is known about Spasti’s early childhood. It is said that both his parents and his teachers spurned him. Spasti himself rarely speaks about his past; when asked, he provides contradictory accounts—claiming, for instance, to have been raised by wolves, striking dockworkers, or malfunctioning vending machines.
Spasti on his childhood
“I had a normal childhood. The others were the problem.”
After being turned away from virtually every public educational institution, Spasti signed on with Exilium AG. The company operated an extensive network of underground facilities beneath the southern districts of New Berlin. Although working conditions were notoriously abysmal, Spasti thrived amidst the psychological terror fostered by Exilium.
His enthusiasm, however, lasted only until he realized that the chaos at Exilium actually followed a hierarchical structure. Rejecting any form of social order, Spasti responded by instigating a mutiny. While he had no concrete plan beyond creating chaos, he later claimed that the entire endeavor had been “militarily well-thought-out.”
Fibo considers it more likely that Spasti simply began to scream, and that the subsequent events took on a momentum of their own.> [!info] Presumed Sequence of the Mutiny
- Spasti insulted a superior.
- The superior alerted other superiors.
- Spasti insulted them, too.
- Someone opened a fuel depot.
- Infinite chaos.
Spasti gives a different account of the mutiny every time he talks about it. In one version, it lasted three days; in another, only seven seconds. Once, he claimed that the leadership had been killed by his “revolutionary aura.” Another time, he admitted to hitting them with a pipe.
It was probably the pipe.
He left the underground facilities and climbed up through a utility shaft into the southern territories of New Berlin. Shortly after emerging, he encountered Kokolores and Fibo, who were out on an expedition.
Fibo initially mistook Spasti for a toxic industrial accident, whereas Kokolores recognized him as a disoriented but deeply loyal human being. She told him about the messages from Cloud 7000 and her conviction that they had been chosen by the sky. Spasti was immediately impressed and swore eternal loyalty to NIMBUS.
Whether he actually understood what Cloud 7000 was didn’t matter.
Spasti on Kokolores
“If the sky picked Koko, it must have had a reason. The sky is very big, after all.”
Since then, he has accompanied NIMBUS as an arsonist and enforcer.
Personality
Spasti is a fiery anarchist—in both the political and the literal sense. He despises state authority and almost every form of advertising. He views personalized advertisements as a declaration of war.
He often compounds charges of theft by beating up his accusers, burning their files, or—perceiving the courthouse itself as yet another power structure—lashing out against it.> [!quote] Spasti’s Theory of Property
“Property entails an obligation—the obligation to carry it away.”
In New Berlin, Spasti is feared for his aggressive behavior. He does not merely react to provocations; he frequently initiates conflicts on his own accord.
His conduct is reminiscent of a wartime prime minister from history, suddenly transported into an era of peace—a situation he perceives as an intolerable, poorly conceived blunder.
Peace-Induced Boredom
The more peaceful his surroundings, the more likely it is that Spasti will stir up tension himself.
Multi-stage plans quickly overwhelm him—especially if they contain terms like “subsequently,” “if necessary,” or “do not strike immediately.”
However, his cognitive limitations do not render him entirely incapable; he possesses a sharp, practical intuition. He identifies dangers rapidly, has an uncanny knack for gauging people’s loyalty, and often finds solutions in chaotic situations that would strike more “intelligent” individuals as utterly absurd.
Things become problematic when technical matters are involved. Door handles, in particular, pose a significant challenge for him.
Door Handles
For reasons unknown, Spasti is unable to grasp the causal relationship between a door handle and the door to which it belongs.
Fibo attempted to explain the mechanics of a door handle to him several times. After the fourth attempt, Spasti became convinced that doors are, in fact, “tiny, authoritarian border regimes.”
Ever since, he has preferred using windows.
Despite his aggression, Spasti is emotionally accessible and capable of a childlike form of affection. He defends those he trusts without a moment’s hesitation. His loyalty is absolute—at times irrational, and often more dangerous than the very threat he seeks to protect others from. His way of offering comfort usually consists of sitting down next to the person in distress, wordlessly offering them something to eat, or asking if he should hit someone on their behalf.
Abilities
When Spasti becomes angry, his body temperature rises visibly. First, his skin begins to steam. Then, his hair and clothing start to smolder in various spots, before his entire body bursts into flames. The flames do not appear to cause him any pain.
Spasti can consume almost any known type of fuel without suffering immediate health consequences. He explains the process quite simply:
“Fuel goes in. Fire comes out. What happens in between is a private matter.”
Taste Preferences
Spasti evaluates fuels not only by their combat effectiveness but also by their taste. He describes diesel as “earthy,” kerosene as “honest,” and biodiesel as “salad for engines.”
The characteristics of his fiery breath change depending on the fuel used.
| Fuel | Behavior | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diesel | Sluggish, viscous, and sticky | Burns for a long time and keeps surfaces ignited | Short range, difficult to ignite |
| Biodiesel (Algae Oil) | Calm and steady | Produces little smoke, relatively easy to control | Lower heat |
| Gasoline | Explosive and rapid | Massive burst of flame | Consumed quickly, hard to control |
| Bioethanol | Calm, barely visible flame | Easily overlooked by opponents | Lower radiant heat |
| Hydrogen | Shimmering heat haze | Extremely hot, nearly invisible | Very short-range stream, difficult to aim |
| Ammonia | Foul-smelling mist of fire | Combines heat with irritating vapors | Burns poorly and requires premixing |
| Methane | Soft and broad | Covers large areas | Low penetrating power |
| Acetylene | Focused, like a cutting torch | Capable of cutting through metal and thin steel | Extremely unstable |
| Wood gas | Spark-filled and flickering | Glowing particles set roofs and fabrics ablaze | Lower heat output |
| Turpentine | Sticky fountain of fire | Adheres to surfaces | Produces heavy smoke |
| Pyrolysis oil | Heavy, cascading rain of fire | Suitable for sieges and area attacks | Generates dense clouds of soot |
| Kerosene | Steady, long-reaching stream | Long range | Requires high pressure |
| Vegetable oil | Slow-burning and oily | Forms a burning film on water | Difficult to ignite |
| Rocket fuel | Explosive and blindingly bright | Enormous recoil and destructive force | The idiot often ends up flying along with it |
| Lamp oil (whale/fish oil) | Slow, foul-smelling, and dripping | Burns for a long time, even in damp environments | The stench lingers for days |
| Sugar alcohol | Short, crackling bursts of fire | Effective for creating distractions | Gives the idiot the hiccups afterward |
Pain Resistance
He appears to feel little to no physical pain. Even extreme temperatures affect him far less than one would expect for a healthy human being.
He consistently refuses any medical examinations intended to investigate his pain resistance more closely, dismissing them with remarks such as, “That’s just a police interrogation using equipment.”
Risk of Injury
Being free from pain does not mean being invulnerable. Spasti can sustain injuries, yet he might only notice them once a body part ceases to function properly.
Fisticuffs
Spasti is an extremely aggressive close-quarters combatant. His fighting style follows a simple principle:
Keep hitting the target until it stops moving.
Fibo refers to this method as “recursive application of force with no termination condition.”
Typical applications of his “fist-first” philosophy:
| Problem | Spasti’s Solution |
|---|---|
| Locked door | Hit it |
| Hostile barricade | Hit it |
| Uncooperative sentry | Hit it |
| Broken device | Hit it |
| Functional device | Hit it |
| Political stalemate | Hit it |
| Unknown machine | Hit it |
| Warning sign | Hit it |
Intimidation
Furthermore, Spasti has a natural talent for instilling fear. His physical appearance—combined with the fact that he could burst into flames at any moment—always lends significant weight to his side during negotiations.
Kokolores occasionally uses this trait strategically: while she negotiates with clan leaders, Spasti stands silently behind her, demonstratively drinking from a gasoline canister. In many cases, this significantly accelerates the process of reaching a consensus.
Relationships
Kokolores
Kokolores is the person Spasti trusts most.
He believes in her connection to “Cloud 7000” without ever asking for proof. Her conviction that she is one chosen by the heavens strikes him as entirely plausible.
Usually, a specific look, a calm touch, or a reminder that a clan leader who is currently on fire would be “inconvenient” for the negotiations is enough.
His affection for her has quasi-romantic undertones, yet it remains undefined. Spasti himself does not seem to draw a clear distinction between love, loyalty, and the desire to beat up every one of her enemies.
Fibo
There exists an intense “love-hate” relationship between Spasti and Fibo.
Fibo considers Spasti to be irrational, destructive, and intellectually limited. Spasti, in turn, views Fibo as weak and unnecessarily long-winded.
Nevertheless, they complement each other perfectly when facing danger. Fibo knows that Spasti will protect him, while Spasti knows that Fibo can fix almost any problem that Spasti has managed to cause.
The Clan Leaders of New Berlin
The clan leaders of New Berlin treat Spasti with a mixture of fear and strategic politeness. When it comes to matters of war, Spasti is one of the first people they turn to; in times of peace, however, he is never consulted.
Several clan leaders have established internal rules for any encounters with him:
- NO advertising within sight.
- NO use of titles like “Chief” or similar.
- NO closed doors between Spasti and the exit.
- NO discussions regarding property rights.
- Inform Kokolores before the conversation begins.
Public Perception
Spasti is one of the best-known and most controversial figures in New Berlin. He enjoys a cult status, particularly among young anarchists.
His name frequently appears scrawled on the sides of buildings. Several slogans are attributed to him—even though he never actually said, or even understood, most of them.
Slogans attributed to Spasti
“No gods, no masters, no advertising.”
“Beneath every cobblestone lies a pipe.”
“Property entails an obligation—the obligation to be carried away.”
“Another world is possible. This one can go.”
“Door closed? Revolution.”
Fibo suspects that Spasti’s followers perceive him as being far more philosophical than he actually is. Spasti takes that as a compliment.
